I quit 10 years ago cold turkey! You can do it if you have a reason to! My reason was my daughter..
She looked up at me and said, "Momma, will you please stop smoking because I don't want you to die."
I NEVER SMOKED AGAIN.
Good Luck!

it makes me so sad that when i'm at home and get one out of my purse...the dogs run to the back door because they know we're going outside.

Wjo your story breaks my heart. But what a great story it is. So glad you have stuck with not smoking.
My fil was diagnosed with the beginnings of inphazema (sp), and he came home and stopped cold turkey. He smoked 2 packs a day at the time, and my mil smoked 2 to 3 a day.
He never touched another one.
My mil, it took her her a year to get her mind wrapped around the nonsmoking thing. But her first grandson, my oldest, told her every time he saw to please stop.
I admire everyone who does quite. It is the hardest thing to do, and the best thing you could ever do for yourself. Good luck, and stay with it!

Start taking the money you were going to buy cigarettes with and put it in a jar. If you bought a pack daily put that amount in the jar daily. At the end of the month see and hold how much money you saved. That would be a huge motivator for me.

Hang in there! Best of luck.
We tell out patients to chew gum (any kind of gum) to help crub the cravings.
Yea well docs need to pre warn about the excessive bloating of 25% or more of quitters. They never do, they will tell you that you will gain weight due to eating and that is true but bloating is different, only 2 days after quitting I bloated up as if I was 6 months pregnant and I'm still fighting that issue, it was NOT from eating this was only 48 hrs after quitting! After doing MY OWN online research I found 2 things out drs dont tell you. Nicotine acts as a digestive aid. So when you quit your body goes into shock because it doesn't know how to digest on its own and constant sucking and chewing of gum and lozenges causes excessive swallowing of air which adds to the bloating. So for you quitters, dont panic when you blow up like the chick on willy wonka that ate the blueberry gum....LOL

Most of my savings went on NRT products the first few month, but foods started to taste so damn good after just 1 day that whatever savings I had left went on food....LOL

Awesome job, @Wooderson ! I quit when I got pregnant with DD & never started again. It's a nasty, expensive habit that smells. I've got 3 friends who all had awesome results quitting with chantix. Good luck!

But for chantix to work, you need to follow the directions. It isn't a quick fix either. I took 2 months working "up to it", but it sure does quench the witrhdrawls, what makes it much easier.
